
As many as 830,000 families could be going without free meals despite the government promising to provide alternatives for those who were no longer attending school, charity the Food Foundation says.
The figure has been estimated using weighted figures from a YouGov survey commissioned by the charity.
It asked 2,070 adults about the financial aspect of coronavirus, also known as Covid-19.
Some 54 per cent of those surveyed said they had not received substitute meals for their children.
The Department for Education has released guidance for schools on how to provide for deprived families.
