Children's trusts must publish workforce strategies

Children's trusts will be required to publish workforce strategies as part of their local Children and Young People's Plans.

The move, part of the 2020 Children and Young People's Workforce Strategy, is designed to help councils develop the local talent.

The Government has also promised to develop a "knowledge bank" for the children and young people's workforce, to make sure that training is based on good practice evidence.

Doug Nicholls, general secretary of the Community and Youth Workers' Union, said that local workforce strategies would be welcomed across the sector.

He said: "It's long overdue and it's a very useful part of public accountability."

Other measures in the strategy include a new social work taskforce and a national partnership body to represent the children and young people's workforce.
