Calls for better SEN intervention

A disabled learner's charity has launched a white paper challenging local authorities to provide earlier intervention services for young people with special educational needs (SEN).
The Treloar Trust, which runs a school and college for pupils with additional needs, is calling on councils to provide SEN pupils with personalised "Learner Journey" plans.
The plans, which could be provided to pupils without SEN statements, would be informed by regular multi-agency assessments.
Graham Jowett, education project director at Treloar, said: "Providing young people with SEN with earlier intervention is critical both to delivering personalised learning and to ensure services are cost-effective."
Treloar is also launching a range of services aimed at local authorities, including a mobile unit to assess the needs of students.
