Telecoms giant BT is to donate cash generated from online searches to children's helpline ChildLine.
Money raised from the initiative, which will see BT donate five per cent of revenue from searches on BT Yahoo!, will go towards ChildLine's night-time helpline services.
It is thought the recruitment drive will enable ChildLine to answer more than 1,000 calls at night.
Research from ChildLine has shown children calling in at night are often in a state of distress and need emergency help, and the night-time service is a key priority for the charity in 2008/09.
Christine Renouf, head of ChildLine's development programme, said: "By capitalising on increased internet usage, BT Yahoo! has created an innovative and effective way to generate vital funds and raise awareness of ChildLine."
From autumn, ChildLine will recruit more counsellors to answer night-time calls in its Birmingham and Glasgow offices, adding to the existing London night-time operation.
