Anti-knife crime campaigners will undertake a march in London this weekend.
The aim of The People’s March – which is being backed by the Damilola Taylor Trust – is to bring together people from “all different postcodes, black and white, old and young in a show of peaceful national solidarity”.
Marchers will assemble at Kennington Park, South London, and Caledonian Park, North London, at 9.30am on Saturday 20 September.
The two sets of campainers will meet for a 1.30pm peace rally in Hyde Park, where there will be speakers and live entertainment.
The anti-knife campaigners organised the event via Facebook. The group was led by Sharon Singh and Gemma Olway, as well as Richard Taylor, father of Damilola Taylor.
In a joint statement the campaigners said: “We are taking to the streets because we believe the level of stabbings going on has gone beyond something a civilised society should support.
“This is not a political protest but a plea for everyone to come together as one united community - we don't want to lose any more youngsters or see any more families go through the pain that follows.”
