Funding Watch: Ernest Cook Trust

Monday, January 24, 2011

What is it? The trust works with children and young people to develop an understanding of conservation and management of the countryside. It encourages children to learn from the land through hands-on experience on its 22,000 acres of estates across five counties. It also offers grants to groups that encourage young people's interest in the environment or aim to raise levels of literacy and numeracy.

How much is on offer? The trust has two grant programmes that run throughout the year: one for awards under £4,000; and a larger grant award of between £4,000 and £10,000.

What will it fund? The large grants programme funds a wide range of education projects, and in the past has supported work with theatres, art galleries and orchestras, as well as environmental projects. The small grants programme is aimed at schools and charities that would like to run projects that meet the trust's objectives.

Who can apply? Charities, state schools and not-for-profit organisations that work with young people, but grants will not be made for youth work or projects related to sports or recreation.
