NYA Update: Free event explores future role of council youth services

1 min read
Lead members and strategic leads are to meet to explore the transformation and future of youth services at a conference jointly organised by the National Youth Agency (NYA) and Local Government Association in January.

"The Youth Offer – The Future Role of Councils in Supporting Young People" is a free event that will be held at Local Government House in London on 17 January 2012 and will provide attendees with the opportunity to hear from children’s minister Tim Loughton, and discuss current policy.

Fiona Blacke, NYA chief executive, said: "This is a timely topic for councils. The anticipated launch of the government’s Positive for Youth Strategy in November and its continued emphasis on localism means local authorities remain at the heart of communities, and are the lead body in developing the local offer for young people. The youth sector is facing unprecedented challenges – budget cuts, the post-riot negative views of young people and the coalition government’s priorities mean that services have to adapt.

"This event will provide a vital forum for local authority decision makers to come together to exchange experiences and discuss the impact of the government’s forthcoming Positive for Youth policy."
