The initiative is backed by Patsy Kensit and is designed to promote and preserve outdoor play around the country and help children stay active and happy.
Nominations can be made until 16 March, after which a shortlist of playgrounds will be announced, which will go to public vote. Those playgrounds with the most community votes will receive a renovation bursary to be renovated in time for summer.
Adrian Voce, director of Play England, says: "Preserving the country's outdoor places is crucial for all children to have the freedom and space to play. Play should be at the heart of every child's life. The current economic climate and the impact of cuts means that local authorities are facing difficult decisions around spending. Not investing in children's play is a time-bomb for their future health, development and happiness, and is detrimental to the wider community."
