We could point out that when youth workers tell such stories they are engaged in a millennia-old ritual of bonding and truth-seeking. That they are trying to make sense of a complex and bewildering world, sharing their hopes and fears with others who have experienced the same, and shielding themselves emotionally from the potential risks and dangers of the big outer world.
