Queen Elizabeth II celebrated 60 years as a monarch on 6 February 2012. She ascended to the throne of the United Kingdom in 1952, when she was a 25-year-old princess. Throughout the year, there are celebrations to commemorate her Diamond Jubilee, including an extra bank holiday, which will bring thousands of additional visitors to the UK as well as providing the opportunity for the British to celebrate her long reign.
