Youth work course gets an early start

1 min read Youth Work
Four new universities will offer full degree-level qualifications in youth and community studies from September.

The University of Bolton and the University of Worcester will offer youth and community courses for the first time this autumn. Ruskin College, in Oxford, and the University of Derby, which previously offered other youth work courses, will now offer rewritten BA (Hons) courses in the subject.

The universities are making the switch to full degree programmes ahead of 2010 when youth work students and professionals starting courses will be expected to study to at least BA (Hons) level to gain full worker status. Currently, the workforce is only required to gain a foundation degree.

All the courses have been approved by The National Youth Agency (NYA) and Joint Negotiating Committee (JNC), the body that endorses professional qualifications for youth and community workers.
