The council's cabinet last week decided to hand over responsibility ofservices for 13- to 19-year-olds to Hertfordshire County Council andcommission youth services for nine- to 13-year-olds from externalorganisations.
Watford said the county council was better placed to handle youthservices and the move would give the voluntary sector a greater role inservice provision. The move should save the council about 100,000.
A Watford council spokesman confirmed the decision will lead to theclosure of a drop-in youth club at Centrepoint Community Centre, but allother youth clubs and services will continue.
The spokesman added county council plans for youth services in Watfordinclude employing three youth workers and providing residentialactivities, 40 hours per term of sports, arts and outdoor education, anda one-stop-shop in the town centre.
