Youth Opportunity card - Pilot councils mull alternative to card

The two-day Sheffield meeting of the 'business champions' who had been seconded by the department to develop the pilot, was convened to discuss alternative ways of spending the 27m earmarked for the scheme.

Options under consideration are understood to include further investment in the popular Youth Opportunity Fund scheme to ensure its sustainability and a card modelled on the Young Scot entitlement card.

A DfES spokesman said: "There's a six-week deadline, in which time we will work with local authorities and others. Then the Secretary of State will have to sign off any ideas, before we commit to them in print."
