The YJB is putting 9.5m into parenting programmes over the next two years, to fund 7,500 extra interventions, on top of the 5,500 that are already in place. If the projects are delivered successfully, this would mean the amount of parenting work done by teams will have more than doubled since 2003.
The funding comes from the 45m in prevention money that the YJB announced last year. Bob Ashford, head of prevention at the YJB, said: "Youth offending teams have sat down with children's trusts, and crime and disorder reduction partnerships, and are developing parenting interventions that are joined up."
Much of the money will be spent on staff, although Ashford said there have been applications to develop programmes for specific groups of parents.
