Youth Justice News: Youth custody - Offenders could be moved tocentres

The Youth Justice Board has asked the Prison Service to write to the governors of young offender institutions (YOIs) asking them to identify young men who may be suitable.

Secure children's homes and STCs are generally used to house younger or more vulnerable offenders. They offer higher staff-to-inmate ratios and more intensive support than YOIs, but are also more expensive.

Mary Graham, the chair of the Secure Accommodation Network - which represents secure children's homes and STCs - said there is potential to increase places for juvenile offenders in secure children's homes.
