Youth Justice News: Partnerships - Offending teams set to receive guidance on children's trusts

Rod Morgan, chair of the YJB, told a conference last week that the agency is "very likely" to move to clear up the issue when it gets the results of a two-year study, due out in June.

Morgan said the agency would look to take a stronger line when it gets the results of research it has commissioned from children's charity NCB.

The charity is studying two demonstration sites - in Northumberland, and Hammersmith and Fulham - and has carried out a wider survey of youth offending teams. Further preliminary findings from the research will be released in January.

Mike Thomas, vice chair of the Association of Youth Offending Team Managers, said there was no reason why youth offending teams shouldn't be part of children's trusts, but they must retain their independence.
