Youth justice: New body focuses on Black youths

A new group aims to address the over-representation of black children and young people in the youth justice system and the issues that black staff can face.

The Black Youth Justice Forum will launch at a National Association for Youth Justice conference this month.

Figures show that 24 per cent of the 7,523 children remanded in custody pending trial are from a minority ethnic or mixed-race background; but account for six per cent of the population.

The forum will share information and give practitioners a voice in campaigns.

The conference is in Newport, Shropshire, on 15 and 16 September.
