A report released last week by the Home Affairs Committee ruled outintroducing a target to reduce over-represent- ation, warning it riskedcreating the perception and danger that justice was being distorted tomeet a Government target.
But Paul Cavadino, chief executive of the charity Nacro, said thebenefits of creating more equal outcomes for young Black peopleoutweighed the risk.
He said: "There is a much bigger risk in allowing discrimination tocontinue without setting clear targets to rectify it."
The committee's report, Young Black People and the Criminal JusticeSystem, called for a departmental strategy to assess, challenge andreport on progress on the situation. - www.parliament.uk.
