Youth custody: Data system on sentenced offenders to go nationwide

The Youth Justice Board's pilot of the Electronic Yellow Envelope (EYE) scheme at Feltham Young Offender Institution (YOI) has proved successful, and the board is now planning to expand it to the whole of England and Wales in the next 12 months.

The system allows data about a young person to be sent to the secure establishment where they are to be held as soon as they are sentenced.

This means the institution can prepare for any needs the young person has, and decide where they should be held.

At present, details about a young person often travel with them in a yellow envelope.
