Youth crime: Early intervention will reduce crime

The document, Cutting Crime: a new partnership, was published last week. It sets out three main steps to combat youth offending; successful early prevention, early intervention where offending behaviour has been identified and pre-court interventions, such as penalty notices for low-level offences. A youth crime strategy and practitioner toolkit will be produced to show how young people should be dealt with by local services.

Chris Stanley, head of policy at crime-prevention charity Nacro, said the steps were positive.
