What do you do? I'm an advocate and solicitor. I interview families and children, prepare statements, make representations in court, chair meetings and interviews, and sometimes cross-examine doctors, police, psychiatrists and experts.

What are the most rewarding aspects of the job? To stop interim careorders and reunite children with their families when the circumstancesallow it.

What was a recent highlight of the job? Reuniting two neglected childrenwho had lost touch with their father, enabling them to form a familywith his new wife and her children.

What's the hardest aspect of the job? Seeing the terrible emotional costto children in difficulties, when help has been left too late.

What other departments do you work with? Mainly social services, Cafcassand children's guardians.

What was the toughest decision of your career? There isn't a specificone, but the most challenging issues are whether or not to advise aparent to remove children from informal foster care when the localauthority is threatening to take proceedings.
