All jobs are in the voluntary sector, except for Connexions. Call takers work a variety of hours - from one four-hour session a week to 30 hours a week. Pay is dependent on day and night shifts. Many people start as volunteers and training is provided on the job. The post of personal adviser requires the equivalent of a diploma in social, youth or community work.
