Workforce: Author assesses gender imbalance

Careers Youth Work
Author and academic Sue Robertson is to undertake research into the number of women entering the youth work profession.

Robertson, course leader for the diploma in youth work at the University of Chichester, says there is growing evidence to suggest the profession is attracting far more women than men. "In years gone by most full-time youth workers were male, but increasingly it's becoming a female-dominated profession," she says. "This changes the dynamic of how services are delivered to young people."

The findings of the study are not expected for another year.
