It could have been all so different. Only a few months ago, the invigoration of the Scottish referendum campaign showed what can be done. Regardless of what you think of the result, the referendum was a triumph for democratic engagement. The sense of public debate was electric, social media was alive with discussion, and young people were engaged with big issues. Many of us had hoped that some of that flavour might transfer to the general election campaign.
Does it really matter, some people ask? Older people have always been more likely to turn out for elections, and apathy and cynicism are hardly new characteristics among young people.
