WALES: Inspectorate urges more joint working

Local education authorities in Wales must work much more closely with social workers to improve the quality of life for looked-after children, according to the country's inspectorate for schools and colleges.

In its annual report, Estyn also said more must be done to tackle poor attendance in Wales. It found attendance rates were unsatisfactory in about one-third of secondary schools inspected.

In primary schools, attendance was "good or very good" in around 30 per cent of schools, a fall of 10 per cent on last year.
