Violent crime: Workshops aim to stop weapons use

The workshops will be run as part of an initiative called Students and Teachers Against Bullets and Blades (Stabb), and will be carried out by youth workers in schools and youth clubs.

Mark Clark, head of Merton Youth Service, said: "The workshops will be run by youth workers with the aim of discouraging young people from carrying knives and weapons. More young people are carrying weapons for defence but they are more likely to become a victim of that weapon."

The initiative is being funded through the youth service budget and Safer Merton.
