Unions have say on inspections

Unison and the Public and Commercial Services Union are in negotiations with the suppliers vying to run Ofsted's early years inspections.

In a meeting last week, the unions set out their demands should theinspections be outsourced. Jon Richards, senior national officer foreducation and children's services at Unison, said the unions want towork in partnership with providers but that there were concerns aboutany future staff transfer.

He said: "We are seeking to ensure all staff remain in directemployment, have a final benefit pension scheme and that their terms andconditions are not cut away."
