The One to One centre in Shiremoor has a separate waiting room for young people and is the base of the area's teenage pregnancy support team and chlamydia screening for under 25s. The centre also offers contraception advice, screening for sexual infections, pregnancy decision-making advice and counselling.
Vivien Hollyoak, North Tyneside's director of public health, said the centre would help further reduce the area's teenage conception rate, which has dropped by 16.6 per cent since 1998. The rate in 2006 was 48.6 pregnancies per 1,000 15- to 17-year-olds, compared to an average of 40.4 across England.
Hollyoak said: "The new clinic, which offers all aspects of sexual and health advice and support under one roof, will help reduce the number of unplanned pregnancies by young people."
