What is a play action plan? For every family the team works with it creates an individual action plan with activities tailored to meet the needs of the child and the parent. For example, children with behavioural difficulties will benefit from play that helps to maintain focus, or parents who do not like mess could be encouraged to play with paint and Play-Doh. The team always starts from what resources the family already has and then works from there.
How does it work? Families are referred from health visitors, nurseries and other outreach services. The team visits the family home each week for six weeks and then conducts a review. Some families are visited for up to a year, while others use the service with their first child and want a few sessions to help them with another child.
