Project
Horwich locomotive works were built in 1884 and formed a catalyst for the building of churches, hospitals and schools to service the town's expanding population. During two world wars the works played a vital role in the manufacture of tanks and munitions. Some 30 young people will work over a 15-month period on this out-of-school project to produce a heritage trail, a website and an environmental project looking at reclamation of the site that closed in 1983.
