The National Youth Agency: Weird looks and stifled coughs - NYAreleases new Spotlight briefing paper

Volunteering is back on the political agenda and there has been a recent flurry of activity and comment. The Agency welcomes the Government's interest in young people's volunteering, but advises caution.

Recent announcements suggest the Government is moving towards developing a national strategy for youth volunteering. The NYA believes that a national strategy should harness young people's creativity, focus on bringing volunteering into young people's everyday lives, and build on the experience of all organisations involving young people, whether or not they define that action as "volunteering".

The paper looks at the Chancellor's recent budget announcements, the work of the Russell Commission and recent proposals from the Fabian Society and the Institute for Public Policy Research.
