The National Youth Agency: Strategic framework outlines way aheadfor The Agency

1 min read
The National Youth Agency has prepared a new strategic framework that charts its sense of direction and purpose for the next three years.

The document shows how The Agency's work fits with the development, implementation and evaluation of youth policy and youth work and its commitment to strengthening the voices and choices of young people about their lives.

Seven key priorities are identified in the framework. These include:

- promoting the voice, influence and choices of young people across public services and in their communities;

- fostering young people's active involvement and volunteering;

- securing better outcomes for young people by assisting with the implementation of Youth Matters and strengthening the performance of youth work services and organisations in local authorities and the voluntary sector.

Also highlighted are:

- enhancing the impact of youth work to the learning and achievement of young people;

- supporting the renewal and development of cohesive, safe, youth-friendly neighbourhoods; and

- encouraging the implementation of the EU white paper on youth policy within the UK.

The framework concludes: "Our strategic goals are that by 2009, The National Youth Agency will be a pre-eminent source of expertise on policies and services for young people and on the application of youth work principles and practices. The Agency will have a structure that promotes integrated planning; strong relationships with stakeholders, government and partners; innovation, research and development; knowledge and support for service providers and young people-led organisations; and strong, specialist input across a range of national policies.

"And, as a result of our actions, young people will have been helped to lead more fulfilling lives."

The framework has been agreed by The Agency's executive board. To request a paper copy email: andyh@nya.org.uk. Or visit The NYA web site at www.nya.org.uk.
