The National Youth Agency: Rural Funding Festival proves success

1 min read
Finding measures of deprivation that acknowledge rural poverty and accounting for the extra cost of delivering services in rural areas were two of the key issues that prompted the first ever Rural Funding

Festival in May.

One hundred delegates from all over the country attended the event at the Arthur Rank Centre in Stoneleigh, Warwickshire, organised by Rural Youth. They were able to choose three workshops from a range including the Big Lottery Fund, Heritage Lottery Fund, Children in Need, applying to trusts and foundations, full cost recovery and The Prince's Trust fund for rural youth cafes. They also had a chance to discuss issues connected to the emerging commissioning role within youth services.

Angela Harrison, chief executive of Rural Youth, said: "Members have been requesting this kind of event for some time.

"It was oversubscribed and in future we will see if it is possible to run regional events that are even more tailored to the needs of local groups. We'll certainly be seeking to follow up some of the issues raised at a two-day residential event we are planning for November."
