The National Youth Agency: NYA research stimulates debate

2 mins read
A new study conducted by the National Youth Agency on behalf of the Local Government Association has sparked a passionate debate about the value of information, advice and guidance (IAG).

The study found that young people value good and timely IAG when trying to make the right life decisions.

The qualitative research provided young people with a voice in the ongoing debate around the provision of IAG for careers and other issues relevant to young people.

A total of 79 young people took part in the study, which was designed by young people and undertaken through peer-facilitated groups across London and the South West. Further research will take place later this year that will cover the North and the Midlands.

Initial findings revealed that trusted adults were the first port of call for a third of young people when making a tough decision. But, a significant number of young people did not think parents' and carers' advice was always the best.
