It was felt this is having a detrimental effect on identifying, raising, exploring and resolving workforce issues.
Some dissatisfaction was expressed with the way Lifelong Learning UK promotes and supports youth work, and concern that the high profile of the Children's Workforce Development Council is pushing youth work out of the public's and elected members' consciousness. The workshops called for affirmation that youth work will be developed as an equal partner in the government's implementation of its strategy, with a fairer and more equitable playing field established.
Other issues arising included protecting the core values and philosophies that make youth work distinct; funding; and concerns over how the move to an all degree profession, in itself largely supported, can be funded given the significant inequalities of funding between sectors.
