We are better at seeking out and pursuing failings than reaching for the stars. While we may hold on to this national trait in our personal lives, it is not too good for our work with young people.
Young people need to reach for the stars and it is our job to help clear the clouds away so they can see them. They deserve to fulfil their potential and to do that, they need to understand what this potential is. There have been too many circumstances where mainstream services - schools and further education, for example - are reported as having too low a set of expectations for the young people who use them.
