THE NATIONAL YOUTH AGENCY: Comment - Becoming adult, ordisappearing?

According to the Department for Education and Skills, there are now 181,000 under-19s not in education, employment or training (NEET). Since it has been at roughly this level for at least the past decade, it shows how stubborn some policy issues are to solve. Of course, there are lots of caveats. The figures are a bit dodgy (when are they otherwise?). It's rather soon to expect Connexions to have solved this problem, although it was this issue that called the service into being.

Indeed, the existence of Connexions may bring to light more NEETs, while weaknesses in the training provided keeps some of them on a revolving door so that they become NEET recidivists, unable to escape their zero status. That's also something for Connexions to influence.
