The Ferret: PM appoints fresh faces to lead education policy

In case you hadn't noticed, there's a new Prime Minister in town and it's yet again all change at the Department for Education (with the exception of the immovable object, Nick Gibb).

Gavin Williamson - the former Defence Secretary sacked in May following a cabinet leak - has replaced Damian Hinds as Education Secretary, ending the latter's 18-month stint in the post. Williamson becomes the fifth Education Secretary in five years - a turnover rate that many Premier League football teams would be proud to have.

Williamson has been likened to fictional comedy character Alan Partridge, and by all accounts during his time as Defence Secretary his social media was full of slightly awkward photo opportunities.

While the education world can't offer such visual props as tanks or helicopters, the new Secretary of State has wasted little time in getting back in front of the camera.
