That's hentertainment: Childminders' farm trip promotes sector

Two-year-old Brook Molyneux makes a chirpy new friend at Smithills Open Farm in Bolton, during a visit by local childminders - and their charges - to celebrate National Childminding Week (16 to 23 June).

The children spent the day riding donkeys, helping to feed hungry lambs, playing games and singing nursery rhymes. Bolton Council's early startteam, who helped to organise the visit, has been running an introductionto childminding course to attract new people into the profession. Evenafter they have completed the course and registered with Ofsted, childminders can still take advantage of regular council-run trainingprogrammes and workshops. The early start team also organises drop-insessions and events throughout the year to give the childminders theopportunity to get to know each other.
