In an era of squeezed budgets, early support for families is crucial to prevent them reaching crisis and needing specialist interventions.
In its drive to become more preventative in the support it offers, Essex Council saw a need to use data more smartly and collaboratively. "In 2014, we did a lot of manual data analysis to determine need and target our early help commissioning," recalls the council's head of commissioning for vulnerable people, Clare Burrell. "This led us to imagine a tool that wouldn't only help us target resources to those who need it, but crunch individual data from partner agencies, to predict need and move to a more preventative approach."
