Taskforce boost for NI Travellers

Northern Irish Traveller children are to benefit from a new taskforce dedicated to improving their educational attainment.

The Taskforce on Traveller Education, which met for the first time last week, aims to evaluate and improve education provision for Traveller children.

Shirley Joyce, community development worker at the Southwark Travellers Action Group in London, called on the government to set up an English version of the taskforce. "The problem is understanding. Few teachers know about Traveller culture," she said.
