Eating disorders charity Beat is consulting brothers and sisters of sufferers to produce a website and leaflets for three age groups - under-12s, 12- to 18-year-olds and young adults - in a bid to help them understand the conditions.
Hayley Woodhouse, young project officer at the charity, said: "A lot of siblings have told us their parents' time is so caught up with the sufferer in the family that they don't know what's going on, don't really understand the problem and feel left out."
The two-year UK-wide project, which is funded by property investment company Targetfollow, is now at the research stage. A questionnaire will be posted on Beat's website so siblings of sufferers can contribute to its design and content.Ideas are also being considered for blogs and interactive games to complement the charity's existing web forum.
