Measures proposed by the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths to help minimise confusion between natural and unnatural deaths include a paediatrician visiting the family at home to take a complete medical history within 24 hours of a sudden infant death.
The call came after the Attorney General made a commitment "as a matter of urgency" to reconsider 258 convictions for murder, manslaughter or infanticide over the last 10 years where Sudden Infant Death Syndrome may have been involved.
