According to the minutes of the latest London Safeguarding ChildrenBoard meeting, social workers have been unable to attend the police'sfree two-day training because of staff shortages and increased workloadsfollowing the Baby P case.
Nushra Mansuri, professional officer at the British Association ofSocial Workers, said social workers in every local authority arebattling to manage massive workloads.
She said: "If social workers can't get to vital training, then thatshows we are at crisis point."
Mansuri warned that the problem looks set to continue. "Nearly sevenmonths since Baby P and there has been no improvement in the situation. The Social Work Taskforce is almost irrelevant. It will report toParliament in October, but in the meantime, social workers are tellingus they can't sleep because they are so worried about theircaseloads."
