Social Care: Shropshire re-jigs social work team

1 min read Social Care
Shropshire has established a group of multi-agency teams to help social workers provide better and earlier support for families with vulnerable children.

The changes will see social workers become part of multi-agency teams that will focus on early intervention. As well as social workers, the teams will include family support workers from Barnardo's, mental health experts, substance misuse workers and youth inclusion professionals. The teams will also give families more say over the support services provided.

Laura Johnston, head of service for multi-agency teams at Shropshire County Council, said: "The teams focus on working with families early on, with social work intervention to support the child's needs. When a child has been looked-after and returned home or has been at risk of harm and referred to the multi-agency team, the team may come in to provide support for the family."
