Social Care: Scotland - Children's workers are on the rise

The number of social workers in children's services in Scotland has increased, Scottish Executive figures show.

The statistics show the number of filled posts increased by 3.3 per centfrom 2,221 in October 2006 to 2,295 in April this year. But the numberof vacancies remained the same.

The difference comes from more positions being created during theperiod, said a spokesman for the executive.

Michelle Miller, convener of the Association of Directors of SocialWork's children and families standing committee, said: "The figuresindicate that many councils have responded to increasing workloaddemand."
