The drop follows the three-year pilot project Talk ... Don't Walkcarried out by the Relationships Centre as part of the Government'sInvest to Save programme. The number of runaways in Warrington hasreduced from 1,235 in 2003, the year before the project began, to 297 in2006. The pilot also helped reduce crime and costs to stakeholders,including the police and social services.
As part of the scheme, missing children cases were referred to theproject, which would help the family identify the root cause of theproblem. Marissa Hankinson, centre manager for the Relationships Centre'said: "The involvement of the entire family has made the biggestchange."
