The percentage of looked-after children achieving five GCSEs at gradesA* to G is 41.4 per cent, compared to a national average for allchildren of 90.5 per cent. The figures for achieving one GCSE at gradesA* to G were 63.2 per cent.
Vicky Swain, policy and campaigns manager at the Fostering Network'said: "More than a third of looked-after children didn't achieve oneGCSE, that's disgraceful. We're still failing these children."
Kevin Williams, chief executive of The Adolescent & Children's Trust'said he was concerned about the number of 16-year-olds who had lefteducation and were unemployed. "The concern for us is that the gapbetween looked-after children and the general population is widening,"he said.
