Social care council defines worker role

1 min read Careers Social Care
The General Social Care Council (GSCC) has produced the first clear definition of the role of social workers, which will feed into future government workforce reforms.

The document, Social Work at its Best: a Statement of Social Work Roles and Tasks for the 21st Century, covers children and adult social services and has been drafted following consultations with employers and professional organisations, including the Association of Directors of Children's Services (ADCS).

The ADCS had been critical of the report in a draft stage last year, with some members complaining it was "wet" and failed to convey the importance of partnership working. But following changes, the ADCS has now welcomed the revised document.

Alterations include giving greater emphasis to partnerships with other professions and families. The document also highlights the increasing role social workers play as part of multi-agency teams.
