Social Care: Cash for projects to stop exploitation

1 min read
Projects in London that help children who are at risk of sexual exploitation or forced into prostitution have shared in a 1.5 million cash boost.

London Councils' grant committee has agreed to give 800,000 towards initiatives dealing with sexual exploitation, with the other 680,000 going towards projects dealing with bullying, over four years.

Among the projects getting money is Barnardo's, which will receive 647,284 to develop its sexual exploitation preventive education programme. This project provides training for social workers and people working with children to help them spot the signs of bullying and abuse.

Pace, which promotes lesbian and gay health and wellbeing, will receive 152,716 for support to gay and bisexual young people at risk of sexual exploitation. It also gets 190,476 for a homophobic bullying project. Beatbullying will get 325,252 to tackle bullying across all London boroughs.
